Activists struggle to loosen gun laws in Mexico

Some people argue that loosening the gun laws in Mexico is needed to secure own safety regarding Mexico's unsecure situation, but government denied the argument about regulation in gun laws. Unlike the US, where serious crime from gun is not really frequent, Mexican think gun law should allow the access of common people, because Mexico is plagued by mafia and normal citizens always have to worry about sudden threatening with guns. Considering Mexico's reality that criminals are well-armed and law-abiding citizen has limitation for arming self-defense weapons, lots of people in Mexico insist that regulation of gun laws is absurd. Furthermore, because model of the guns which can be purchased legally is limited in Mexico, it caused that illegal weapon traffickers have flourished between US and Mexico after the explosion of drug cartel violence. Therefore, government should consider weakening of gun laws and give proper opportunity to citizens of Mexico to defense themselves.

After I read only the title of this article, I thought it was absurd argument. However, after I read whole article, it seems comprehensible that why some activists claim that gun laws should be loosened. In my opinion, gun possession for normal citizens who are not policeman or soldier should be banned, but Mexico has except situation plagued with armed mafia. It is absurd that government regulates citizens’ self-defense guns that all the criminal or cartels already have by smuggling. I think Mexico government should make new laws to loosen the stifling bureaucracy for normal people who want to get armed only for self-defense.

BMW's $1 billion plant surfs Mexican investment wave

The famous auto company, BMW, will invest $1 billion in the Mexico for new plant, because of Mexico's industrial base, tariff-free access to US market and low cost of labor. Mexico's automobile industry is gaining potential growth from auto boom by competition from other global car brands which opened production lines in Mexico and boosted the supplier network. That competition of global company was caused by Mexico's ideal location which is really close to US market. Furthermore, Mexico has advantage for trading US, because tariff is free with trade in US and Mexico. As Mexico has much lower labor cost than Germany which has BMW's major plants, it can reduce the company's dependence on higher cost plants. For those reasons, BMW choose Mexico for investment in new plants, and this investment will be also beneficial to Mexico's level of production for global vehicles.

After I read this article, I think BMW’s new plants not only good choice for BMW, but also affect Mexico in positive way, because it is also beneficial to Mexico’s industry. US market is one of the biggest luxury car markets with strong demands, and Mexico has geological benefits and tax advantage related to US market. Because of this reason, Mexico car industry has become active by other foreign car companies entering the Mexico and this trend helped to make fundamental infrastructure for car industry. It will increase the job opportunities in car plants and productivity of whole country. Luxury car brands’ huge investment also gives positive image to Mexico, because increase of premium manufacturers relate to positive signature of economy of Mexico. For those reasons, I think Mexico will be given great benefits from BMW’s investment for car plants.

The worst massacres and mass graves in Mexico’s drug war

Because of drug wars in Mexico, many people, usually over the 50 peoples, were killed and buried without any signs of identification in several rural areas. Since 2010, series of consecutive massacres have occurred in Mexico because of drug wars of the cartel. Commonly, that kind of tragedy should be a big issue and dominate the country's national news, but the latest tragedy gained only limited attention. Since massacres related to drug wars have occurred frequently, it did not become severe issue anymore in Mexico. Only the families of victims try to search for disappeared body of their loved ones in mass grave, which consists of victims from drug wars. Even drug wars in Mexico are getting severe and mass graves are increasing, only people who really suffered from those tragedies are common citizen of Mexico and they cannot get enough attention and resolutions to solve those tragedies.

I heard that drug wars in Mexico are really severe, but I didn't know such serious massacres occurred consecutively. I cannot believe those mass graves are not rare in Mexico, and even it cannot become national issues. This fact shows that a lot of people are in the dangerous situation in Mexico because of drug wars and cartels. It was very sad that finding the body of victims is hard, because there are too many graves to find dead body and even if they can assume the place, victims’ corpses might already become hard to identify. It seems that the most tragedy persons are common citizens who didn't engaged in the drug war.
